Eco-friendly Resort

Here in Sanctum Una Una we support a sustainable way of living. We take care of our natural surroundings and we work closely with local communities in Una Una and other islands around.

Resort Management

In the daily life in Sanctum Una Una Dive Resort, we reduce chemical usage of cleaning products by making our own from the items that you can find in any kitchen. We also grow our own Luffa sponges, which we use for cleaning dishes. And they are also great for body scrubs!

Beauty items and toiletries come from nearby islands, where local communities produce natural soaps, sunscreen, toothpaste etc. You can find plenty of aloe vera plants here, in case you get sunburned. We have citronella and lemon grass all around the resort for protection against the mosquitos. We also have pinecone ginger for natural soap growing in our resort.

We don’t use any plastic straws or plastic water bottles in our resort, we use papaya straws and we have refill stations for drinking water.

We have two kitchens, one which is using gas and wood fire and another one, where we use drift wood and coconut shells, which we have plenty around.

Garden

Our organic garden provides seasonal vegetables and fruits that we happily serve to our customers. You can find our fruit trees all over the resort and the staff is happy to show you around.

We have few chickens in the resort that keep our garden nicely fertilized and the organic waste feeds our chickens.

We don’t use any chemicals in our garden, we have a healthy permaculture here. Food, fruit juices, and fresh coconuts are coming from our garden or nearby islands in the area. Sanctum is also very vegetarian and vegan friendly.

Waste management

We have multiple recycling rubbish bins used for different purposes. Organic waste is placed around our fruit trees within the resort. Our chickens are very happy to dig around eating scraps and giving the soil nice fertilization. We have several composts and we use the soil for our flowers and garden.

Plastic waste is collected and used within the Ecobrick Program that we are part of. Cans and metals are used for various decoration projects and rest of the aluminum and metals are sent to the mainland for reuse purposes. Paper and cartons are used as a starter of our kitchen cooking fire and the ashes are great for our garden.

We do regular beach cleanups with our staff and local school kids. You can help out as well and get rewarded with a fresh coconut in exchange.

Natural materials

Look around the resort and you will see the usage of natural materials in many different ways. We like to use bamboo and coconut materials for different purposes, for example a bamboo shower heads, flower pots, decorations, or rubbish bins.

The tables, shells, and other furniture is built from drift wood and other local wood by our staff from a nearby village. Some of our games, like dart board or chess, is hand made here from the wood scraps.

Missions

We have many environmental friendly programs in Sanctum Una Una Resort and every guest is happily welcomed to join us. We have also a school program, mangrove restoration project, and we are part of many different organizations helping local communities.
